A pilot served alongside Captain Jack Harkness of the RAF 133 Squadron, who described him as a "young boy". Mid-flight, he was killed by German Messerschmitts prior to 20 January 1941. That night, Captain Jack recalled his death to the man who took Harkness' own name, recounting that he was yelling for his mother on the radio as the Messerschmitts "pumped him full of holes and blew his plane apart."
