Vladimir the Great was considered a saint by the Catholic Church for converting himself and his people. According to the First Doctor, though, this was done mostly for political reasons, to establish ties with Constantinople. According to legend, Vladimir rejected Judaism because of his fondness for pork and Islam because "he was rather partial to" alcohol, finally settling for Catholicism. (PROSE: Bunker Soldiers)
