Abertillery was a town in the south-east of Wales. It was located in mountainous terrain.

Nearby towns included Ebbw Vale to the north-west, Pontypool to the south-east and Rhymney roughly to the west. Local small towns and villages included Blaenavon to the north-east and Oakdale to the south. To the north-east of Abertillery was Coity Mountain.
