Kanpur

In January 1982, England engaged India in three cricket test matches, held in Calcutta, Chennai and Kanpur. All three matches resulted in a draw, (AUDIO: Divine Intervention) as reported in a newspaper read by the Fifth Doctor whilst at Heathrow Airport. (TV: Time-Flight, AUDIO: Divine Intervention)

Behind the scenes

More specifically, this sixth match of the season took place at Modi Stadium in Kanpur, India. The stadium itself is right on the west bank of river Ganges, as can be said more generally of Kanpur.

Strictly speaking, the match stretched from 30 January to 4 February, and so did not take place entirely in January 1982, as the question on You Either Know It or You Don't, which presents this information in Divine Intervention, seems to suggest.
