Ointment was used in the TARDIS' healing bandages, appearing as the coloured part of the otherwise white bandage. When applied to a wound, the medicine would go into the wound and the colour would disappear. Once the bandage was completely white, the wound was healed. (TV: The Edge of Destruction)
