The Volkbrood were blood-soaked mercenaries from the wastes of the Aziah Delta who fed on the souls of the living, leaving them as empty husks.

Cleaver and Fortuna were among their number and were hired by the Eleven to capture and transport the Eighth Doctor to his stellar manipulator. However, they failed in their mission, with Cleaver dying and Fortuna being arrested by the Cosmos Security Service (AUDIO: The Galileo Trap)
