The older brother of Polly Wright was the first child of Edward Wright and Miss Bettingham-Smith. He was born about a year after his parents' August 1939 marriage and was three years old in 1944. The oldest of five children, his younger sister Polly was born in 1942 and they also had younger brothers, (AUDIO: Resistance) the youngest of which was Miles. (PROSE: Invasion of the Cat-People)

After his father's youngest brother, Randolph Wright, was captured by German forces during World War II, the Nazis learned about Polly's brother and their family. When Polly came to France in 1944 while travelling with the Second Doctor, she encountered a Nazi spy who impersonated Randolph Wright using this information. The spy claimed to have visited his nephew just a week before. The man's ignorance of the fact that her uncle also had a niece alerted Polly to the fact that he was an imposter. (AUDIO: Resistance)
