Lan was a Movellan serving under Commander Sharrel on the mission to Skaro. He was left to guard the Dalek command centre while the Fourth Doctor and Sharrel moved in. He was killed when a Dalek gave the order to kill any life forms that came back. The Dalek then shot Lan before he could use his gun.
Despite his apparent demise, Lan was later repaired by the android Movellans and confronted Romana aboard their ship.
