Barnstaple Bay, also known as Bideford Bay, and shown on maps as Barnstaple or Bideford Bay, was an area of water at the mouth of the Bristol Channel. A river, which passed through Barnstaple, flowed out into the bay. At the northern edge of Barnstaple Bay was Baggy Point.
Barnstaple or Bideford Bay appeared on Mary Cooper's map of overflow camps in and around Wales. (TV: The Categories of Life)
