1968 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.
- January - Terrance Dicks was hired to the Doctor Who production team, as an assistant for Derrick Sherwin.
- 29 March - The decision was made to reduce The Dominators from six parts into five.[1]
- 19 April - The Mind Robber was extended from four parts into five, with Sherwin commissioned to write a new opening episode for the story.[1]
