Professor Reginald Rigsby (AUDIO: Parasite) was director of Torchwood One following the Vicar's death. (AUDIO: Goodbye Piccadilly, The Man from Room 13)

In the early 1950s, Rigsby sent his colleague, Lizbeth Hayhoe, to investigate a German version of Torchwood, by the name of Project Hermod. There, she found that Project Hermod were experimenting on children by implanting alien funghus into their DNA. Disgusted by these findings, she burnt the building to the ground. Upon her return Rigsby demoted her and disbanded her team, sending her to Room 13.

In the mid-1950s, Project Hermod got their revenge on Torchwood by using gangs to smuggle the remains of the alien funghal parasite in packages throughout London. Before long, the funghus spread throughout London killing all members of Torchwood, including Rigsby and Hayhoe. The remaining members Norton Folgate and Gideon Lyme, with the help of time traveller Andy Davidson, saved London and took control of Torchwood. (AUDIO: Parasite)
