The Viyran Commander dispatched a squadron of Viyrans to capture and return Charlotte Pollard after her first escape from the Fieldship Prime. Whilst recording the Ever-and-Ever Prolixity's expansion in the Viyran Data Almanac, he met the Rogue Viyran and became "infected" with his ideas, seeing the future and fearing the Lamentation Cipher.
