Brian was the boyfriend of Dr. Grace Holloway in 1999. (TV: Doctor Who) Like her, he was in his early thirties by 1999. (PROSE: The Novel of the Film)

Frustrated with her frequent disappearances in service to Walker General Hospital, he moved out of their shared house on or near New Year's Eve, 1999. When he did so, he took his personal belongings, and the sofa. He had, however, left behind a pair of shoes, which she gave to the barefooted Eighth Doctor soon after his regeneration. Brian and the Doctor were likely the same shoe size, as the Doctor noted that Brian's shoes "fit[ted] perfectly". (TV: Doctor Who)
