Hoopy was a Gonzie among those who attended the Festival of Death and were on the final trip of the Beautiful Death. When the Repulsion transferred the essence of the passengers of the Cerberus into the last participants of the Beautiful Death, Hoopy was the only one not to be turned into a 'zombie', as the spirit that would have used him as a host did not want to leave the Repulsion's realm. Despite his typically drug-addled condition, Hoopy was able to give the Fourth Doctor some useful advice regarding what he had experienced while dead, helping the Doctor work out what was going on.

Hoopy was later injured when some of the equipment that operated the Beautiful Death was damaged, but he was taken to the medical bay in time for treatment. (PROSE: Festival of Death)
