Tranq guns (short for "tranquiliser") were guns which were used to sedate small animals.
Settlers on the planet Sunday carried tranq guns, and Professor Ty Benson used one to capture a Sundayan otter which was under the control of the Swamp monster. (PROSE: Wetworld)
The Space Security Service Gamma Team carried these while entering the petrified jungle on Station 7. Tranter stated that one could "stop a Slyther in its slime."
