Marcus Mortimer directed the Doctor Who mini-episodes A Fix with Sontarans (and by extension the 2022 recut) and an untitled 1986 continuity announcement, he also produced the latter.[source needed]

Prior to making his directorial debut, he worked as a production manager on several episodes of Blackadder and The Young Ones.

He also directed all of the TV comedy skit show, Victoria Wood (As Seen On TV), one episode of which included the television sketch Doctor Who and Crayola. His work on these shows reunited him with producer Geoff Posner, whom he had worked with on Blackadder and The Young Ones.
