Russell McGee was a sound designer and writer for Big Finish Productions.

He also was a writer and illustrator for Pencil Tip Publishing and Terraqueous Distributors.

McGee is an award-winning writer, director, producer, and sound designer. He was nominated in 2019 and 2020 for Regional Emmy Awards as a writer. He is a 2021 Audie Award Finalist, a three-time Communicator Awards winner, and a nine-time Telly Award winning writer/producer. He received a Master’s in TV / Film Production from Indiana University in 2013 after graduating from Indiana State University in 2001 with a Bachelor’s in Theatre with a minor in Creative Writing. In addition to this, he is a trained actor in the Meisner method. He has been producing and directing since 1993.

In 2002, he earned a scholarship to attend the W. B. Yeats International Summer School based on the merits of his full-length play "Ankhenaten & Nefertiti." In 2007, the Indiana Theatre Association awarded him the Basile Playwriting Fellowship for his ten-minute play "The Clockwork Man" and his play "Silent Cinema" won the Artsweek Playwriting Competition. In 2008, he founded his own production company, Starrynight Productions, and was the Literary Manager of the Bloomington Playwrights Project. His film "Funeral March of a Marionette" won the Best Narrative category at the Iris Film Festival in 2013. He co-created and co-wrote the web series "Silence", which won the 2013 Multivisions Multimedia Conference Best Screenwriting Award, was an official selection of the 2013 Indy Film Con, and was an official selection of the 2014 Irvine International Film Festival. Also in 2014, he co-wrote a pilot script "Forman Chronicles", which placed third in the short screenplay category at the 2014 Diabolique International Film Festival.

He is currently the On-Air Promotions Producer for WTIU while also teaching Screenwriting and Sound Design at Indiana University. Over the years many of his Doctor Who short stories have been published, including a Subscriber Short Trip for Big Finish Productions, LTD, for whom he also works as a sound designer on their range of Doctor Who full-cast audio plays.  He also was nominated for Best Audio Adaptation in the 18th Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, was nominated as a Producer, Writer, & Editor in Children's Programming 2018 Regional Emmy Awards, won the 2019 Audio Verse Award for Best Vocal Direction, and won the Bronze Festival Favorite Award at the Hear Now Festival in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
