Clive was a Dollar Intergalactic android working on terraforming of Isen VI and assigned to Zaxx.
Zaxx programmed Clive to tell jokes and to praise Zaxx twice a day.
However, Rann-Korr changed Clive programming. When Professor Spector sent Zaxx and Clive to check unscheduled seismic activity and temperature fluctuations in Sector 42, Clive locked Zaxx out of their pod and watched him being consumed by lava.
