Alonso was the leader of the people of Prosper. He was descended from Gonzalo and told the Seventh Doctor and Melanie Bush what had happened in the last 100 years. He helped in trying to find Ace.
Later, the Doctor discovered that he was also Caliban, the leader of the Mogera. He and his ancestors were playing both sides as they thought that they wouldn't survive on the planet and made the Mogera monsters. He used the myth of the Doctor and Mel to conduct this.
