Grenoside

Grenoside was the Sheffield suburb where, on 28 December 2028, Margaret Cain — future member of the Bowie Base One crew — was born. (TV: The Waters of Mars)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Margaret shares her home town, and her university, with Helen Sharman, the first British woman in space. Margaret was similarly the second British woman on the Moon.

It is also the hometown of Geoffrey Whitehead.

Gary Russell reportedly chose Grenoside as Margaret's hometown as it was a town he remembered writing down the name of repeatedly on envelopes when posting new issues of his Shada fanzine to Grenoside-based subscriber Mark Lenton.[1]
