Just as coal catching fire is part of the normal operation of a steam engine, nuclear fuel going critical is part of the natural operation of a nuclear reactor. I believe the text in this article (and perhaps in the original script) meant to say "meltdown". This is a common mistake in dramas featuring nuclear power. |
