Thara was a Gond who lived under the enslaving regime of the Krotons and the son of the Gond leader Selris.
He was likely romantically involved with Vana. He tried to convince her not to accept selection as a "high mind", because he knew it would be a terrible risk. When the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe brought evidence that "high minds" were routinely killed by the Krotons, he became the de facto Gond leader of the revolution against the Krotons.
At the successful conclusion of that uprising, he was selected as the leader of his people, succeeding his father. It appeared that he and Vana were headed for a happy life of freedom together. (TV: The Krotons)
