CAIN was an artificial lifeform on the Myriad, with a fungoid brain. He could detect the presence of the Pyralis. His brain failed. The captain on the ship locked him up; as he was alive he couldn't deactivate him. Romana II let him free and he ran through the ship. (AUDIO: The Pyralis Effect)
