Anatoly Marichev was a Russian mushroom hunter, and did research on them, including the warlock mushrooms. His grandmother Pietia gave some of the warlock mushrooms to the Seventh Doctor. After he left, Ludmilla Serebrennikov had soldiers kill Pietia and Anatoly, then burn their house down. (PROSE: Prelude Warlock)
