Colonel Tia Karim was a traitorous UNIT officer.
Colonel Tia Karim was a member of UNIT who worked with the Shansheeth in order to travel the stars in the Doctor's TARDIS, as there was 'nothing left for [her] on Earth' - though what drove her to this point of view is never revealed. Once she accepted to come to the funeral, along with Rani Chandra and Clyde Langer, Tia showed them around the UNIT base. She succeeded in locking Rani, Clyde and Santiago in part of the base, and attempted to literally roast them by trapping them in the air conditioning and turning the heat up to maximum, though they were saved by the Doctor. When Sarah Jane and Jo were later captured by the Shansheeth, Colonel Karim activated the Memory Weave to create a new TARDIS key from the memories of Jo Grant and Sarah Jane, intending to allow her and the Shansheeth into the TARDIS. Encouraged by the Doctor to remember all of their adventures, however, Jo and Sarah Jane overloaded the Weave. The Weave subsequently went critical, initiating a countdown until it blew up. Sarah Jane and Jo survived by hiding in the lead-lined coffin, and despite begging to be saved as well, Tia Karim was left in the room, and died when the Weave exploded. Colonel Tia Karim was a traitorous UNIT officer.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 2010, Tia worked with the Claw Shansheeth, a rogue group of Shansheeth, hoping to travel the stars in the Doctor's TARDIS, as she felt there was nothing left for her on Earth.

To reach her goal, she acted as a representative chosen to inform Sarah Jane Smith of the death of the Eleventh Doctor. Once she agreed to come to the funeral, along with Rani Chandra and Clyde Langer, Tia showed them around the UNIT base. She locked Rani, Clyde and Jo Jones' grandson Santiago in a wing of the base, and attempted to literally roast them by trapping them in the air conditioning and turning the heat up to maximum. She was aware the Doctor would save them, allowing the Shansheeth to capture Sarah Jane and Jo.

Sarah Jane and Jo were attached to a memory weave, but it overloaded as it was unable to compute all their many memories. When the memory weave self-destructed, Tia was caught in the blast and killed. (TV: Death of the Doctor)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

 • Tia Karim's demise is the one of the very few explicit human deaths shown on The Sarah Jane Adventures, as the series was specifically made to be more kid-friendly than its parent show.
