Anne Ponsarde Gemelle, (PROSE: "Unpredictable Tastes") also known as Madame Nostradamus, was the wife of Nostradamus.

During the First Doctor's stay in Salon-de-Provence in 1555 with Anne and her husband, Anne embroidered a handkerchief for Susan and knitted a long scarf for the Doctor. The Doctor initially did not think it was to his taste, (PROSE: "Unpredictable Tastes") but he would go on to wear it consistently in his fourth incarnation. (TV: Robot, The Ark in Space, et al.)

Shortly after he had begun wearing the scarf, the Fourth Doctor remarked on the fact she had knitted it for him, describing her as "a witty little knitter". (TV: The Ark in Space)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Nostradamus had two wives during his lifetime, the first having an unknown name (possibly Henriette d'Encausse) and the second named Anne Ponsarde. It was initially unknown which of these women was the one who knitted the Doctor's scarf, however, one of the letters from the Doctor in The Time Lord Letters described the encounter in which the Doctor first acquired the scarf, mentioned her by the name Anne.
