The Doctor Who Fortieth Anniversary Special graced the screens of Doctor Who fans in November 2003, though an exclusive behind-the-scenes feature on the production was brought back in time and released as an exclusive "sixteen years early", in 1987.

The special featured "all six Doctors", though the Fourth Doctor was portrayed by a cardboard cutout; likewise, it nominally featured all of the Doctor's televised companions, who were caught rehearsing their lines (mostly shrieking in fear) in a dressing room by the making-of, but Adric was only an impassive cardboard cutout.

The special also saw a showpiece of an army of Ice Warriors invading London, with UNIT troops (led by the Brigadier) defending the crowd of civilians from the alien soldiers. Other elements of the plot included a carefully-choreographed scene with the Fifth Doctor and a Sontaran, an appearance by several Cybermen and a scene in a Draconian sausage factory. (NOTVALID: A Life in the Day of a Doctor Who Production)
