The Sibylline Oracles were a set of books of prophecy set down by the Sibyl and kept by the Sibylline Sisterhood for generations afterwards. The Oracles comprised at least thirteen books. By 79 AD, the books were kept in scroll form at the Temple of Sibyl in Pompeii. The Sisterhood gradually began to ignore the Oracles under the influence of the Pyroviles who dwelt under Mount Vesuvius, as the stone aliens had a new vision to conquer the Earth, and the sisters were persuaded that the oracles were false prophecy. (TV: The Fires of Pompeii)
The Thirteenth Book of the Sybilline Oracles contained a prophecy about the appearance of the Doctor's TARDIS in Pompeii at "the time of storms, fire, and betrayal", as well as a crude drawing of the timeship. When Mira the Soothsayer saw the TARDIS in the city on 23 August 79, she reported the discovery to Sister Spurrina as the box having come as it had been foretold. The High Priestess, under the control of the Pyrovile and having been largely converted into one, ordered the seers to disregard the prophecy as false, but it was proven true when the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble were forced to manually activate the eruption of Mount Vesuvius the next day in order to preserve the fixed point in time and prevent the Pyrovile takeover. (TV: The Fires of Pompeii, PROSE: The Fires of Pompeii)
At some point in history, The Sybilline Oracles were banned, and would later be celebrated as part of an annual Banned Books Week. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)
