The Not-So-Sinister Sponge was the third short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips and Side Steps and the first of four linked "Special Occasions" stories in that anthology. It was written by Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman. It featured the Fourth Doctor, Romana II and K9 Mark II.

The Doctor, Romana, and K9 arrive on an uninhabited planet made entirely of confectionery. K9 seems in a bad mood, and Romana realises it is K9's birthday. To celebrate the occasion, she takes the Doctor's TARDIS to Barastabon to fetch a dedicated sponge cake from the Masterbakers of Barastabon.
