High Street was a common name given to a street that was central to a village, city or city district. In particular, there were several High Streets in London.

Another High Street was in Shoreditch.

In 1963, shops on High Street, were closed most of the week because of the "quiet crisis", but opened on Saturday morning. High Street was always busy on this day, as everyone had to do all their shopping at once. The Pump was a pub on the corner, which also had an entrance onto Totter's Lane. The Wimpy Bar was a hamburger restaurant along High Street. (PROSE: Time and Relative)
