She has enjoyed a long career as a character actor in the United Kingdom. It began in the 1960s, when she appeared in Dr. Finlay's Casebook, Z-Cars and other shows. Later work included turns in Inspector Morse, Rumpole of the Bailey, Casualty and The Bill. She also appeared in a few films, most notably A Fish Called Wanda (which co-starred John Cleese).

She was married to Tim Piggott-Smith, who appeared in The Claws of Axos and The Masque of Mandragora.
