A Hurricane was a type of aeroplane used by the British during World War II.
The Hurricanes, as part of the Royal Air Force (RAF), were used alongside Spitfires against Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe air force during the Battle of Britain in summer 1940. (PROSE: /Carpenter/Butterfly/Baronet) The Hurricanes used to be the RAF's main fighter plane though the Spitfire later gained this title. However, the Hurricanes destroyed more Luftwaffe aircraft in 1940 than was achieved by all other British aircraft types combined. (PROSE: The Shadow in the Glass)
