Meet the Doctor was a piece of short prose fiction included in Doctor Who The Official Annual 2021, accompanying The Secrets of the Timeless Child.

Although it adopted an in-universe point of view — being written in the first person by Jo Martin's mysterious incarnation of the Doctor — it was not strictly speaking a story, being more of an introduction to the character and her mysteries, as the title suggested.

Moreover, the Doctor appears to be speaking directly to viewers of Series 12 in a fourth-wall-breaking fashion, wondering herself about matters which the in-universe individual would have no reason to question (such as "Who wanted me so badly?", the answer to which, the Division, is well-known to the Doctor herself) — and ending with "you'll find out, one day". As such, Meet the Doctor is not considered a valid source by this Wiki.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Notably, the "illustration" — a stock photograph of Jo Martin as the Doctor — was appended with a speech bubble separate from the text itself, such as it was. Said bubble read, "The Doctor has been the Doctor for much longer than she thought, and one of the people she used to be was me!", seemingly confirming Martin's Doctor as being one of the Timeless Child's regenerations, forgotten when the Doctor was forcibly mind-wiped and reverted into a child. This was left ambiguous in TV: The Timeless Children, where the Thirteenth Doctor merely guesses that this is the case, and the Fugitive Doctor's Matrix projection pointedly says that she isn't in a position to confirm or deny that supposition.
