Barbary ape

Barbary apes were an animal species found on Earth, including Gibraltar. (PROSE: The Fortunate Isles) They were hairy creatures, but with a hairless face and a tail. (PROSE: The Plotters)

In 1605, King James I ordered the Chamberlain to provide entertainment for him at the Palace of Whitehall, with his favourite act being that of the Barbary ape. The ape had been brought in from "far shores" and dressed in a bridal gown. (PROSE: The Plotters)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Though not known to have been remarked upon in any Doctor Who work, the Barbary ape is more commonly known as the Barbary macaque and is not actually an ape, but an Old World monkey.
