James Leith was a military commander who funded some of Crane's work. He asked Crane to create the Shadow Vortex, believing it to be a Soviet Weapon.

An alternative timeline was created when the Daleks invaded East Berlin 1961, and he was soon exterminated by the Daleks after he defied their command and defiantly attempted to wound one with his gun.

However, due to the War Doctor defeating Lara, erasing the Shadow Vortex and reversing this timeline, his death was undone with no memory of the Dalek attack whatsoever. However, due to being close to the "eye of the storm", he was still atop the building where the Shadow Vortex was placed. (AUDIO: The Shadow Vortex [+]Loading...["The Shadow Vortex (audio story)"])
