Grogu, also known as "The Child", is a character from the Star Wars television series The Mandalorian. He is a young alien of an unknown species and possesses strong Force abilities. He was initially introduced as the central focus of the series, which followed the adventures of a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter tasked with protecting him.
Grogu quickly became a popular character with viewers, due in part to his adorable appearance and his mysterious backstory. As the series progressed, it was revealed that Grogu had been rescued from the Jedi Temple during the fall of the Republic and had been kept hidden ever since to protect him from the Empire's persecution of the Jedi.
Despite his young age and limited ability to communicate, Grogu is a major player in the series and often serves as the catalyst for the Mandalorian's actions. His unique abilities have also made him a target for various factions seeking to exploit his powers for their own gain.
Grogu is portrayed by various puppeteers and voice actors in The Mandalorian, with his movements and expressions created through a combination of puppetry and CGI effects.
Behind the scenes[[edit]]
- Grogu was created by Jon Favreau for The Mandalorian and was inspired by classic Star Wars characters like Yoda and E.T. The character was initially referred to as "The Child" before being given the name "Grogu" in the series' second season.
- The character's physical appearance was designed by Legacy Effects, the same studio responsible for creating the practical effects for many of the creatures in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
