The Black and White Minstrel Show was a television series created by George Mitchell and aired on BBC1, beginning on 14 June 1958 and ending on 21 July 1978. It has garnered such controversy for its racist content and premise that it has been cited as "arguably the BBC's most glaring failure to understand the damage it could do when it traded in out-dated stereotypes".[1]
