Preston Gilchrist was a magician, Spiritualist, TV presenter, and a sceptic of mediums. He was an eccentric man, speaking in Shakespearian phrases and wearing a waistcoat.
While working for Scared Stiff, Preston exposed the programme's medium Dennis Bridger as a fraud during a live edpisode in a Scottish castle. This earned him the mistrust of Corynne Fletcher, the show's creator and main presenter, since Dennis was one of the show's biggest attractions. She correctly feared that Preston wanted to oust Dennis in order to get a show of his own, and was working alongside Clive, the owner of Scared Stiff's network Breezy-TV.
