Captain Zachary Velasquez worked for the Gobocorp Freight Company and was aboard the Herald Of Nanking when it crash landed on the Gyre several thousand years before 250,339. Following the crash only five hundred of the three thousand aboard survived and over the next several thousands generations their descendants became more primitive versions of humanity.

When the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond visited the Gyre, the humans had created an entirely new faith built upon misunderstandings of their own history. Gobo, the Gobocorp mascot, was believed to be their God and "Zasquez" (Zachary Velasquez) was, to them, a Jesus-like figure who passed stories of his father down through the generations.
