The Player's Manual was the first of the three books included in the original September 1985 FASA Doctor Who Role Playing Game Game Box Set, alongside Game Operations Manual and A Sourcebook for Field Agents.
It largely served as a guide for a prospective game-master on how to design original adventures, characters, monsters and so on. It also included an entire, non-role-playing short story, Tabby Cats And Time Lords, intended to serve as an example of a typical DWU adventure.
