Empress of India was a title held by the British Queen Victoria (TV: Tooth and Claw [+]Loading...["Tooth and Claw (TV story)"]) as a result of the British Empire's colonisation of India. Following the death of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII took the title Emperor of India which was in turn taken by King George V, with their consorts taking the title Empress of India. Following King Edward VIII, King George VI and his wife Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon were the last Emperor and Empress of India, the British Raj dissolving in 1947.
