An engineering manager is responsible for technical planning, logistics, budget, schedule, crew management, and other such practicalities in a television production. More broadly, an engineer manager's job is overseeing technical sound and vision quality.

As Hugh Davison explained, "My job is to interpret what the production team wants [...] to feature in the outside broadcast. I come up with a way of doing them feasibly and cheaply."[1]

They were mainly credited on Doctor Who during the 1970s and 80s.
