John Wilkes was an 18th century political commentator who published The North Briton. After being released from Ludgate Prison, where he was being held for sedition, he was elected Lord Mayor of London in 1774. He was a member of the Hellfire Club.
He was honoured as "Cousin John" in the Liberté ritual of the Eleven-Day Empire's Feast of Fools. (PROSE: A Tour of the Capital)
