While John Ransome was away in the United States to try to obtain funding for a new doll he had designed, Hibbert fell under the control of the Nestene facsimile Channing, who used his company to manufacture Autons.
Hibbert struggled to break free of their control, visibly struggling with the effort against the will of the Nestenes. He eventually succeeded in breaking free of their control, but when he attempted to destroy the factory machinery, Channing had him killed by an Auton.
