He pleaded with the sentience in the water to allow them to get to the Light. He was curious to why the Master wanted to get there and what he used to destroy the sentience. He looked after the Master when he fell unconscious. He was following his father's footsteps who took this voyage before. Getting closer to the Light, he encountered a big tentacled monster that was using the body of his father and his crew against them. He grabbed a random corpse thinking it was his father after the Master killed the creature. He refused the Master's offer to travel with him. The Captain was a sea captain the War Master employed to get to the temporal beacon on the planet.
