Biography

Originating from Tibet, (PROSE: Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...{"name":"\"encyclopedia\"","page":"348","ed":"2011 reprint","1":"Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"}) he and Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest; Tensing was the first person to reach the summit of Everest. The Eighth Doctor later claimed that he remembered Tensing's feat as he had pulled him up, with Hillary joining them a half-minute later. Legacy

In 1997, of speaking about humanity's return to Mars and the original planting of the Union Flag upon Olympus Mons, David Staines referenced the first climb of Mount Everest; the Eighth Doctor quietly clarified the claim to Bernice Summerfield, claiming he had in fact been there at the summit.
