Today I was very bored at work, and my mind, for some reason, wandered over to Journey's End. If you'll recall, it's revealed that Dalek Caan manipulated the timestream so that Donna re-entered the Doctor's life. The first reference to this iTacces in Turn Left, in which the Doctor mentions how unusual it is for him to meet someone twice like that.
So... do you think that Dalek Caan's manipulations go farther back, and the returns of Sarah Jane Smith and Jack Harkness are also his doing?
Jack is the easy one to rule out, because he was actively looking for the Doctor, and set up shop on the Cardiff rift expressly to catch up with the Doctor. But Sarah Jane is a little more random - she wasn't looking for him, and, in fact, seems to have given up on meeting him before School Reunion.
And here's the bonus question: Do ya think RTD planned this, or was it just a happy accident? Monkey with a Gun 05:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- I doubt it. I seem to remember that the point of Caan's manipulations were to create the two half-Doctors, which meant that the Doctor and Donna were the ones needed there. The fact that all the other companions were there was probably helpful, but not needed.
- As for the oddity of meeting Sarah Jane Smith a second time, it doesn't seem that improbable. It seems like most of the companions trying to continue his work and investigate alien events. The Doctor spends enough time in 20th and 21st century England investigating strange events that he's bound to meet up with a companion eventually. -<Azes13 14:41, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
To be honest, I don't Caan actually manipulated the time stream. For a start he has no known means to do so, although God know what the repucussions of saving Davros were (apart from the whole reality-bomb thing). I think Meta-crisis Doctor overreacted to chance meetings of Donna and Wilf. What Caan did do however is manipulate events through Davros to lead the eventual outcome of their defeat, nothing more. I think more credit is given to him than is warranted. Taccer 07 19:35, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
