Howling:The Lord President is Rassilon?

Template:Forum archives header In the End of Time the Doctor refers to the Lord President as Rassillon, and he is also called Rassillon by Russell T Davies in Confidential.

Even though he was immortal, he is seen as just a floating head in the Five Doctors, so this is likely just a projection, meaning he may not have been in the Dark Tower. The Big Finish productions say that his mind lived on in the Matrix. How did Rassillon not only get a new body, but become Lord President?--TemporalSpleen 13:21, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Well, when you're at war, would you rather have a wimpy elcted officail, or one of the most powerful Time Lord's ever? and for a race like the time Lords, a new body doesn't seem a like a difficult thing if you've got whatever you what to put into it. Excalibur-117 13:25, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Anyway, if they were able to give The Master a new body and a new cycle of regenerations based on whatever they got back after the TV movie, why wouldn't they be able to do the same for Rassilon given his consciousness in the Matrix.

The big problem is, wasn't the Matrix destroyed? Personally, I think this is yet another reason to treat all those sources as non-canonical. The Matrix was never destroyed because The Ancestor Cell, The Gallifrey Chronicles, BFG, etc. never happened. But I know not everyone agrees with that.

So, if you stick with the accepted version of canon, the 8th Doctor destroyed the Matrix to protect it from Faction Paradox, the 8th Doctor also destroyed it along with the rest of the planet the first time he destroyed Gallifrey, and the 3rd Romana destroyed it to save it from Pandora. A backup of the Matrix existed in The Doctor's brain (how this works with the Romana-Pandora version, I don't know), but it's not a live, running program, just a static backup. I suppose that The Doctor could have helped them either extract Rassilon from his head, or that he could have earlier helped them rebuild the Matrix from his backup.

Anyway, I was really hoping they were going to resurrect Omega; it seemed to fit better with resurrecting The Master. But having it turn out to be Rassilon was almost as good. --99.157.75.211 02:10, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Can I note just because they share the same name it doesn't mean they are the same person, many kings, dukes, leaders, rulers and even bishops, have been named after previous ones, all this could be is that this time lord has just got the same name, after all there are many people today called alfred but that doesn't mean they are Alfred the great of england. The being named after someone, is particually common if the person did something great, so all he could be is someone who has taken the name of the time lords greatest hero, to make overs think he is great to. Yeah, and he talked about Rassilon's appearance as a "return" and made a big deal out of it, which would be kind of strange if it were just some new guy named Rassilon. Even if he didn't explicitly say, "the return of Rassilon, the same one who was one of the 3 [or 2 or 6] founders of Time Lord society", I think that's enough.

Still, someone should actually dig it out and watch it again to source the claim that it's the same character. --99.50.120.236 05:40, April 25, 2010 (UTC)
