Abilities
The Nightmare Man was able to visit Luke in his nightmares (and presumably others), he drew power from beings Nightmares, with enough power, he was able to physically manifest himself into the universe. Before he was able to control beings dreams, and possess their minds, giving him the power to have limited control over them. Once he had physically manifested himself he gained far greater powers, he was able to place those awake into a sleep and create nightmares in the minds of those who were already asleep, feeding off of their fear. The range of his powers also greatly increased to the point that he could have sent the whole world to sleep. He was also able to make it so that beings having nightmares could not be woken.
He was also able to fire offensive energy blasts that damaged K9 Mark IV and was able to cause Mr. Smith (And presumably other computers and circuitry) to short circuit by pointing him, he was able to teleport both round the real word and back into the dream world. He could also control people while they were asleep, as long as they feared him. Those he created nightmares for were able to enter the same dream as others with intense concentration, which caused him pain.
As he fed of all nightmares that every Man, woman and child ever had, he also knew all there nightmares and as such knew about everyone. His power to create Nightmares was so great; he could cause Luke to have Nightmares, even though his mind was made to allow him to dream. Even before he was able to physically manifest himself he was able to control dreams, to the letter, once he physically manifested himself he was able to control more than one dream to the same level at once.
He needed fear to fuel his powers, as without he was powerless (SJA: The Nightmare Man)
Behind the scenes
- The Nightmare Man bears a similarity to the Pied Piper, (SJA: The Day of the Clown) the Dream Lord, (DW: Amy's Choice) and the Ghostmaker, (TW: From Out of the Rain) the latter who was also portrayed by Julian Bleach. He also bears a physical and mental similarity to the Joker from the Batman franchise.
- The Nightmare Man's goal is identical to that of the Bodach, (K9TV: Dreameaters) who were also an incorporeal species feeding on nightmares tackled by K9. However unlike the Nightmare Man who can manifest himself if he becomes stronger, the Bodach can only possess a Human avatar.
