The Kinda were the near-Human inhabitants of Deva Loka. They were outwardly primitive but peaceful and enlightened, as well as gifted with telepathic abilities. While not users of technology, they had an apparent understanding of DNA, glass work, and musical theory. The referred to outsiders as "the Not-We".

Kinda males were mute, although they had the anatomical capability of speech; while most females were mute as well, speech was seen as a mark of a wise woman among their people.

Their method of reproduction may differ significantly from that of Humans, as the Kinda girl Karuna said she had seven fathers. This may also be a cultural difference; "father" may be used in the sense of an extended family.

They aided the Doctor in banishing the Mara. (DW: Kinda)
